Former Good Morning America anchor Sam Champion is taking on a new role with America’s Morning Headquarters With Sam Champion.

The program is a weekday live morning show on The Weather Channel, for which Sam will anchor and serve as managing editor for the three-hour show, alongside co-hosts like meteorologists Maria LaRosa and Mike Bettes.

“I’ve lived in New York City for 25 years and I didn’t know how it was going to feel to move to Atlanta, because I had only spent time covering stories in Atlanta,” explains Sam, “but we moved right in to Midtown and [are loving it].”

The move wasn’t always a plan for Sam though, as he admits he was comfortable with his position at ABC.

“I’ve loved my jobs, I really have and 25 years at ABC, I could stay at ABC and do what I was doing and do what I was doing the same way for the rest of my life and I kind of thought I would, but then came this opportunity and The Weather Channel said, ‘Look we want to relaunch The Weather Channel … and we want to do that by getting a fresh look at a morning show and  re-imagine what that’d look like … would you come in and create this?’ … And when someone comes at you creatively … someone like me runs at that opportunity.”

The show will run live in all time zones, versus tape-delayed, and offer live reporting from around the country.

Tune in to the premiere of AMHQ With Sam Champion on The Weather Channel on Monday, March 17, at 7 a.m. ET.
