BARTOW, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Polk County State Attorney Jerry Hill has sent a scathing letter to Lakeland City Manager Doug Thomas, saying Lakeland's police chief, Lisa Womack", is incapable of doing her job."
Hill suggests there be a change in leadership, though he can't fire Womack. Only the city manager can make that decision.
Womack has come under fire for a large-scale sex scandal that resulted in the termination of a number of officers. There's also the case of the officer suspended for making a woman shake her bra during a traffic stop. And this week, another officer was arrested on charges he raped a woman while on duty.
"We're going in the wrong direction," Hill told reporters Friday afternoon.
"If the city manager had to pay the chief out of his own pocket, this problem would have been remedied a long, long time ago. It's so much easier when we're willy-nilly spending someone else's money, and I think that is just completely irresponsible."
